Aug 20 Fundraiser for Globe artists

Hi, many of you probably know Frank and Nora Balaam who had that wonderful art gallery on Broad Street in Globe right next to the Java Junction. Their artspace was an important community gathering place for artists, musicians, poets, film aficionados, you name it. Anyway, you may not have heard that the historic Pioneer Hotel where their gallery was located has burned to the ground. Fortunately no one was injured however Frank and Nora lost everything including many irreplaceable pieces of their own artwork.
There is a community fundraiser in Globe this Saturday night to benefit all victims of the fire, I hope you will consider making a quick roadtrip up there to support Frank and Nora and others. Hopefully I will see you there! There is also a bank account set up to accept donations for Nora and Frank to buy new paint and canvas, i can provide that information to anyone who emails me privately. Thanks, Lisa T

Globe-Miami community rallies
to support businesses hurt by fire
A community event to raise funds for six businesses that were hurt when the historic Pioneer Hotel and Globe Theatre burned down will be held Aug. 20 in downtown Globe.
“The fire destroyed part of our heritage,” said Mary Anne Moreno, executive director of the Globe-Miami Regional Chamber of Commerce. “The six businesses that were located in those buildings gave a lot to the community—it’s time for the community to give back.”
The businesses are Globe Theater, Anonymous Tips, Java Junction, Balaam’s Art Studio, Animal Magnetism and Earthquest.
Planners of the event are asking for a $10 donation for “all you can eat hamburger and fixin’s” during the evening event, from5 to 9 p.m. on Broad Street beween Oak and Cedar, where the destroyed buildings were located.
“We’d love to have folks from all over the state join us,” Moreno added. “It will be a lot of fun, but most of all, it will be a chance to help a great cause.”
