artlink, Inc. First Friday September
A couple of notes about artlink, Inc. First Friday September 2nd regarding the city, police, parking, and vending.
SAFETY & POLICE: Since August First Friday, the City of Phoenix has formed a task force with the Office of Arts and Culture and artlink, Inc., the organizers of First Fridays. Under this guidance, the police will be adopting a more low-key approach this month.
Please be aware that there will be a visible police presence during the September First Friday artwalk, but there will be fewer officers than in August and they will be dispersed throughout the artwalk, not just on Roosevelt. They will be focused on safety and education and they will be giving warnings about trespassing, parking, open-containers, etc. However, minors who are drinking will be ticketed.
For your own safety and the good of the event, please:
*Pay attention to no-parking signs. Do not park on dirt lots, marked or unmarked.
*Mind open-container and all liquor laws. Do not drink on the street.
*Use common sense…
artlink is pleased to announce that the Mayor and City Manager will be out enjoying First Friday this month and showing their support of downtown arts. If you see them, say hello and tell them how much First Fridays means to you.
VENDING & PERFORMING:
This month vendors and performers will be able to set up at the lot on the SW corner of 2nd St and Roosevelt. (Big thanks to the owner!) Be aware that you may not set up on other lots without the property owner's permission.
FREE PARKING:
*Burton Barr Public Library at 1221 N Central Avenue (Free Shuttles!)
*On the south side of McKinley between 1st and 2nd Streets (No shuttle needed!)
*Arizona Center Parking Garage between 3rd and 5th Streets on Fillmore (Free Shuttles!)
The City of Phoenix has arranged to offer free parking at the parking garage at Arizona Center for September First Friday. Parking tickets from the garage can be validated at galleries on Roosevelt and Grand Ave. Just look for signs for participating galleries. It’s an easy walk from the garage to galleries, or you can catch an artlink shuttle at the corner of 3rd St and Fillmore.
*Of course, there is street parking all over downtown, just look for signs and meters!
