As the weather cools off, the film festival circuit heats up. Starting out with an autumn bang, the Scottsdale International Film Festival rolls off the reel October 7 through 11 with a plethora of projected pleasures for indie lovers of all flavors.

Truly an international festival, works will be featured from China, Mexico, Algeria and the good ole U.S.A. Subjects include love, loss, family and massacre; the gamut of documentary work and narrative drama are featured, including a doc by local filmmaker and film professor Dr. Penelope Price. Her film, "Artist of Resistance" is a locally produced film, shot in El Salvador, which describes the artwork of Claudia Bernardi and her involvement with the United Nations investigation into the murder of children during the Salvadoran civil war by government troops. Dr. Price will be at the show and will do a Q and A following this important screening.

Quoting the press release, "Set in the jungle of El Salvador, this is a story of one woman's courage - from the tragic brutality of cultural repression to the visionary alternative of hope."

On the other side of midnight from this flick is the closing gala screening of the comedy "When Do We Eat?", directed by Salvador Litvak and starring the uber-gorgeous Lesley Ann Warren, who will also be at the screening and doing a Q and A after the show.

From the press release, "WHEN DO WE EAT? is the story of the "world's fastest Seder" gone horribly awry. It's about an old school dad (Michael Lerner) who's as tough on his sons as his father (Jack Klugman) is on him. On this night, however, one of the boys (Ben Feldman) slips Dad a dose of LSD in order "to give him a new perspective." Meanwhile, Mom (Lesley Ann Warren) brings a handsome stranger to dinner and the kids take sides. By the end of the night, however, Dad's visions turn him into a modern day Moses intent on leading this hungry group to the promised land of family forgiveness. Of course they're all so stubborn; it'd be easier to part the Red Sea."

In-between these event are animation competitions, student entries and lots of great filmic wonders. Tickets range from single event seats at $10. for non-opening or closing screenings to pre-event purchase of the VIP Full Fest Pass at $180. To order tickets and get the full skinny, go to the wonderfully expansive website, www.scottsdalefilmfestival.com or call 602-410-1074 for more information.
