Call for Proposals
The curatorial committee of Theater In My Basement is accepting proposals for this year’s ¡Teatro Caliente! festival. This year’s festival will be held at Modified Arts (407 E. Roosevelt in downtown Phoenix) October 28-30. We are looking for highly experimental, transcultural (and transgender) work in all fields of performance (including, but not limited to: Performance Art, Dance, Multi-media (including Powerpoint presentations), Solo Performance, Theater, Music and any interdisciplinary work that falls outside of the mainstream categories, whatever those might be). We’re looking for pieces of various lengths, but between 10 minutes and 55 minutes is a good guideline. In keeping with the mission statement of the festival, work that represents the diverse populations of Phoenix, in any language, will be given priority. Entry into the festival is based on Innovation, Experimentation, and Transculturality.
To Apply, please send:
- 1-page description of the project
- 1-page description of the group or performer
- Video/audio samples of the proposed work (or, if the work is brand new, samples of prior work). We prefer video samples for examination, but understand that this is not always available—in these cases, we will make every effort to send a member of the committee to see the work in person.
The deadline for consideration is August 15th, 2005. Please mail samples to:
Chris Danowski, Artistic Director
Theater In My Basement
1138 E. Northview Ave.
Phoenix, AZ 85020-5025
(mark “TC” on the envelope please!).

SATAN'S ANGEL RETURNS TO THE TRUNK SPACE!! |
 |
trunkspace writes " She's Back! Cece Walker, THE REAL Satan's Angel is coming back for a 3 night stand of her rollicking and frollicing life story, "Have
Tassels Will Travel!" There was such an overwhelming response to the show last year, we couldn't resist when Angel asked to make us the last stop on her US Tour!.
"Have Tassels Will Travel" is an oral history about the world of Burlesque, as told by a woman who lived thru it. Cece Walker, AKA Satan's Angel The Devil's Mistress,? toured the US and the world while spinning her flaming tassels and living the life legends are made of."

There is a growing Argentine Tango scene in Phoenix, and the newest place you can watch or dance this beautiful and sensual dance is at an Art Gallery on Van Buren Avenue called The Trunk Space.
Starting in January, there will be a Milonga at the Trunk Space every 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month from 7:30pm until 10pm. It's free! The dates for January are January 5 and 19. Come and join us to dance or just have a latte, look around at the artwork, and watch the dancers.

''Who is Bob Fosse?'' |
 |
stephanie writes "

Bob Fosse
Born: June 23, 1927
Died: September 23, 1987
Director-choreographer Bob Fosse forever changed the way audiences around the world viewed dance on the stage and in the film industry in the late 20th century. Visionary, intense, and unbelievably driven, Fosse was an artist whose work was always provocative, entertaining, and quite unlike anything ever before seen. His dances were sexual, physically demanding of even the most highly trained dancers, full of joyous humor as well as bleak cynicism -- works that addressed the full range of human emotions. Through his films he revolutionized the presentation of dance on screen and paved the way for a whole generation of film and video directors, showing dance through the camera lens as no one had done before, foreshadowing the rise of the MTV-era of music video dance."
